We work with women farmers to shift from high-cost chemical inputs to low-cost organic practice — vermicompost, bio-pesticides, mixed cropping and seed conservation. A typical intervention starts with a demonstration plot in the village, followed by household kitchen gardens that improve nutrition immediately and generate a surplus within one season.
Groups of 15 to 20 women are formed into producer collectives that buy inputs together and sell together, which alone raises realisation by a significant margin. We also help register the collectives and open group bank accounts.
The programme includes a community seed bank so that traditional varieties stay in the hands of the women who grow them.
